About

Welcome to Golfdreams!

I’m Christian, and this is my blog. I have taken upon myself the challenge of getting a single digit handicap in a year. Golfdreams is where I share my golf-related thoughts and experiences with my friends, family and whoever else that might stumble across the url.

I was first introduced to golf in the mid 80s. My father gave me a 7 iron for my birthday, but I can’t remember how old I was. I do remember it was the 7 iron though, and he told me it was the easiest club to play. A little later I got a sand wedge. It was called St. Andrews, and this, he explained, was a place in Scotland.

My set of clubs grew and  for a few years  I played at our local club, Kjekstad in Norway. Back then it was a nine-hole course in the forrest.  My attention span at this time was a bit shorter than the length of the course, and after a while I got bored and stopped playing.

Now, after a 23 year break, I was re-introduced to the sport, and for some reason I enjoy it a whole lot more than I did as a child.

I was not a very talented golfer back in the 80s and it would be fair to say that hasn’t changed much since. Nevertheless I believe talent alone will not make a good golfer, so what I lack in talent I can make up for in other ways.

I started playing again in late August 2009, and the idea is that I should have my single digit handicap by September 1st 2010. Most people I have spoken to, who are playing at this level, have explained quite carefully that it is probably not all that realistic. If it was realistic it wouldn’t be a very cool goal, now would it?
